1984 REUNION BULLETIN

WELCOME FROM YOUR REUNION COMmITTEE

Gentlemen,

Forty. For-ty. For…ty…Years. In the halcyon days that were the early 80s, complete with Member’s Only jackets, cut-off t-shirts and ripped jeans, I remember walking around the Circle as all these old farts assembled for the reunion weekend class march. The men from the 25th reunion looked old enough. Forty? They were, in many cases, older than our parents! That. Was. Old.

Well, gents, here we are.

Old.

But you know what’s great about now being old? Wisdom. Perspective. Reflection. I could go on, but I think you get my theme.

Five years ago many of us were unable to attend reunion because of graduations and other events within our own families. Now? Most of us are reaching the back side of those obligations. For me, that small reduction in obligations has given me that small amount of bandwidth needed to reflect on those things in my life I find most meaningful: family, community, friends.

In that process of reflection I would not say I miss our days at Lawrenceville. Missing connotes at least an interest in returning to what was. We are all old enough to now know you cannot return to the past: everything is different. I would propose instead of missing Lawrenceville, we are wise enough now to know we can look back upon those days with pride and joy.

So let's all make it back to Lawrenceville for the 2024 Reunion. With this trip back, let’s make it a return to the grounds that set us all on the path to the journeys we’ve all been on for the past 40 years. Let’s make it an opportunity to return to those grounds to reflect on where we started and where we are today (a real life version of the “How it Started / How it’s Going meme). Let’s use the reunion to physically reconnect in a world that seems increasingly bifurcated, disjointed, and disconnected. Let’s make this reunion our own, and something uniquely the Class of 1984.

Here’s the catch. The only way this is going to happen is with you: ALL of you. All of US.

So what are the what, where, and hows?

Dates: May 31 - June 2, 2024

If I’m going to write this, I’m going to own this, which means I need to offer that, if you have any questions about this, or want to talk about your excitement or reservations, don’t hesitate to reach out to either me, or any of the other reunion committee members.

I truly look forward to seeing ALL of you.
